GrowSmart Air
Description
The GrowSmart Air meassures air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure and the CO2 level of the grow environment.
While monitoring air temperature and relative humidity would be considered sufficient for most grow environments, keeping an eye on the CO2 level, even if you are not artificially adding any CO2, will help you make sure that your plants can thrive.
The additional measurement of the air pressure will be necessary if you want to use the GrowSmart Leaf component to calculate your plants' VPD.
The GrowSmart Air has no mounting options, as it is supposed to be dangled above the canopy from its ethernet cable.
Bill of Materials
- 1 * GY-BME280 (~$10) - make sure to get the I2C version, and that it's a BME280, not a BMP280
- 1 * SCD40 breakout board (~$20)
- 2 * 4-pin female header
- 2 * 4-pin 90° male header (with the bend on the long leg)
- 1 * M3x5x4 heat set insert
- 1 * M3x25 socket head bolt
- 1 * SparkFun RJ45 Breakout Board (BOB-00719: ~$1) and RJ45 Jack (PRT-00643: ~$2) - not the MagJack version
- 1 * 8-pin female header
- 1 * 8-pin male header
Assembly
This was the very first component, so its design isn't as refined as some of the later components, but it still works great.
The tricky part is crimping the female pin headers, as you will have to crimp the wires for both sensors into one pin.
(Please be aware that the male 90° pin headers shown above are the wrong version (bend on short leg).)
